Java emulates x86 processor
Scientists at the University of Oxford published JPC, a pure Java implementation of a x86 PC running on a variety of JVMs, such as on Windows PCs, Macs, Linux and even mobile phones.

They claim to achieve around 10% of the host’s performance and look forward for further improvements and also for publishing the sourcecode under an open source license.
The project’s website currently offers a demo applet running FreeDOS, in which users can play some old school games like Space Invaders, Commander Keen 1, Prince of Persia, Lemmings and more.
