Now I got a Second Life
Hi, my name is Urinella Polanski and I am Alexander Langer’s avatar in Linden Labs’ virtual online world ‘Second Life‘ (SL).
This is all new and exciting to me. Funny that SL started back in 2003 and I never really heard about it before. Okay, my news reader was full of news such as “Second Life goes open source” some weeks ago, but because I did not know about SL, I did not recognize what was going on. Now I know better…
It did not take much time for me to get an idea of all the possibilities that lie in SL. It’s so interesting from very different point of views, socially, technically, culturally, … For now I’m just teleporting myself around and having chats here and there, trying to figure out what’s going on. I’d like to attend at least one of U2’s two SL concerts in February and watching or maybe even playing hockey on Jericho Hill.
Many of you may wonder if I’ve been living under a rock but let me assure to you that although I am a TV junkie I’ve never ever seen anything about SL before the last couple of days in which I aught maybe two or three different coverages. It may have to do with the AverStar, a virtual magazine within SL, that’s made in Germany and started just a few weeks ago.
Within the next couple of days I’m sure I’ll try to find out how to build objects and buildings and how to script. My background as a developer (Java, PHP, …) will surely prove useful.
